I want to lose weight and have more energy, can you help with that?

Almost every single client comes to me with this goal—it’s okay! However intentional weight loss simply does not work long-term, we both know it, and boatloads of research supports it. Our work focuses on listening to your body, what it needs and practicing health-promoting behaviours. This may or may not affect your weight, but it will positively affect your wellbeing and confidence when it’s no longer your main goal. That might sound scary, but what’s scarier is all the time, energy and life spent so focused on weight instead of important moments, joys, and pleasures.

I’ve been told to lose weight by my (insert medical professional):

Weight is not an accurate marker of health—there are plenty of unwell thin people out there. BMI is also not a good marker of health despite what the government thinks as it was invented by an 1830s astrologer(!) and was never intended as a measure of individual body fat, build or indeed health! BMI was never meant to be used in this way it is in current health care settings as it doesn’t look at fat distribution, waist circumference, muscle mass or even varied populations. What’s more important for you are your health behaviours and other determinants like access to food, lifestyle activities and genetics. If helpful I can help you communicate with your medical care team (GP, specialists etc) and support the implementation of changes that fit with your unique body and lifestyle.

Can you create me a meal plan to follow?

One of my key goals is to empower you with the knowledge of how to develop a healthy balanced meal yourself. I believe this is really important as I want you to ensure you are not dependant on any meal plan I initially put together for you hence i call them menu plans. These are for inspiration and ideas to get you started. After some support you will be empowered to design your own meals in a way that will not only provide you with the nutrients your body needs but meals that are satisfying to you, support your goals and is something you can maintain long term.

I need to change/cancel my 1:1 what do I do?

Life happens. There may be times when you (or I ) need to change our prearranged 1:1 sessions. I request (and offer the same to you) a minimum of 24 hours notice so that I may adjust my calendar accordingly, potentially providing another client with the time opportunity. Please note that cancellations within 24 hours of a scheduled appointment will incur a 100% charge.

Do you recommend supplements?

If I feel that a nutritional boost would be beneficial to you, and you consent to taking supplements, I am able to make recommendations and may even be able to provide you with a discount of 10% off from a local store (also available online). However please note that should you be taking any prescribed medication I will be unable to recommend supplements due to the interactions they may have with your prescribed medication. The way I work puts the emphasis on optimising your intake of micronutrients (vitamins, minerals and essential nutrients) through food first.
